Classes
We offer classes at The Midwives’ Clinic!
A variety of classes are available, taught by our Registered Midwives.
The Package
The Prenatal, The Newborn The Hands On, The Nourish
These classes are designed to provide you with a series of thorough learning experiences over the course of your pregnancy. You can take The Prenatal and The Newborn as a one-day online intensive class, or you can take them separately over a few months. Usually, these classes are taken between 28 and 34 weeks gestation. The Hands On and The Nourish are each 2 hour in person classes meant to be taken between 32 and 37 weeks to prepare for the technical aspects of labour, birth, caring, feeding your newborn and YOU! These classes are taught by Sarah Leslie and Sarah Wilson, who have a combined 30+ years of experience working as registered midwives.
The In Person
In the world of online classes this is an entirely different class because it's IN PERSON!! This class is a 4-hour standalone prenatal and newborn class. Sarah Leslie will teach this class to prepare you for giving birth and caring for your newborn. To be completely prepared for feeding your newborn, this class is best paired with The Nourish. If there is something you would like to learn that is not included in the class, you can email Sarah before the class and she'll add your request to the agenda. The other participants will thank you!
The OOH
If you are being cared for by an Ontario midwife this class is designed for you! This class is for individuals considering where they would like to give birth: a birthing centre, at home, or in their community hospital. Maeghan Macpherson will walk you through the out-of-hospital birth research, what it's like to have a baby out of the hospital environment and answer your questions! You are welcome to bring anyone to this online class who wants to learn more about the OOH options, as well as the risks and benefits.
The TOLAC
If you have had a caesarean birth and you are considering how you would like to give birth the next time, this is a class for you! This online class is open to all folks, whether you are receiving care from a midwife, a family doctor or an obstetrician. The class is taught by Clare Hacksel, who has lots of experience in supporting labouring clients who have chosen to have a TOLAC.
The Nourish
The Nourish is a 2 hour in person class created for expecting parents. Whether you're are planning on breast/chest feeding exclusively or combo feeding with breastmilk and formula, this class is for you. This class is taught by Sarah Wilson, who has extensive experience teaching new parents how to effectively feed their newborns.
The Village
Having a baby takes a village! This small interactive class is for the enthusiastic village that surrounds small humans and their new parents!! If you are a soon-to-be or new grandparent, auntie, uncle, or friend who wants to be supportive, this class is for you. This in person class is taught by Julie Ngu, who will walk you through all the information you will need to know to care for a newborn and their parents in the first 8 weeks after birth.
The Social
The Midwives Clinic is excited to host a FREE monthly event for pregnant people and postpartum families to connect. Sarah Leslie will facilitate these events and cover topics the group would like to discuss. This is a brand new idea, so any suggestions are welcome!
Feel free to bring finger food to share; light snacks will be provided. We will have diapers, wipes and our baby scale if you wish to weigh your baby.
We'll be mingling in the Fitness Room, which you will find by going up the escalators, turning right and walking towards the elevators and social area. The Fitness Room is on the left side of the open area. There will be signs!
The Private
Folks want private classes for so many different reasons! If you're busy and want to schedule a few sessions to break down the material or just get it all over at once, we can figure out the time and the content you wish to cover.
Sarah Leslie offers private prenatal and newborn classes that range from 1 to 3 hours in duration. She also offers a private refresher class to discuss your past birth experience and how you can strategize for your next birth. She can also review your previous feeding experience and provide suggestions and resources for your next baby.
Sarah Wilson offers a private Nourish class, which can be between 1 to 3 hours. You can add more content to this class if you wish.
Maeghan MacPherson offers a private Out of Hospital (OOH) birth class, which can be between 1 to 3 hours. You can add more content to this class if you wish.
Clare Hacksel offers a private TOLAC class, which can be between 1 to 2 hours. You can add more content to this class if you wish.
